Norrona falketind scores again

Norrøna falketind dri3 test

Still as our excitement yet hasn’t worn off after our falketind flex1 jacket was announced winner in a big test of summer softshells in Outdoor Magazine, we receive more great news about our redesigned falketind collection for 2011. This time it’s the falketind dri3 shell jacket that is scoring well in a test of lightweight jackets published in german magazine Alpin.

The falketind dri3 was the lightest piece of all jackets in the test, with it’s 380 g (men’s L), yet has all the critical functions and details demanded for a jacket to protect you from bad weather in the mountains. The testers liked the clean design and the features of the jacket, and especially the big hood that fits over a climbing helmet, offers effective weather protection and is easy to adjust with the new true one-hand adjustment system implemented on all our falketind jackets.

The testers only worry was that the jacket may not be as robust as the heavier jackets in the test. And that is of course reality. It’s impossible to be the lightest and most durable at the same time. The fabric of a very light jacket can never be as robust as a much thicker fabric of a heavier jacket, that is pretty much basic physics. This is where the demands and needs of the user becomes important to understand and consider. What is the intended usage and activities, and what are the priorities of the person who will wear the jacket?

Because some people and some activities is more dependent upon weight and others more on the durability of the product, we’ve developed two different waterproof falketind jackets, the 380g dri3 jacket and the 460g Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket, even though they are both in the same concept, that is falketind which means they are both made for lightweight mountaineering. For some people, the around 100grams is important in their activities which may not mean a lot of mechanical wear on the product, while for others carrying 100 grams more is a price worth paying for a jacket that can take a harder beating. But they are still both lightweight mountaineering jackets, and both some of the lightest full feature alpine weather protective waterproof and breathable jackets out there.
