The Pacific North West corner of the Americas is known to get a lot of snow. La Nina seasons hit hard here, making for epic winters like the lasts, and records like the World record of 29 meters snowfall at Mt Baker for the 98-99 season. But it can get a lot of rain too. This season it’s been back and fourth so far, but there has definitely been some good days.

I have taken a month off this holiday season aka “The Dark Times” of the Lofoten Islands, to travel back to my roots the North Cascades. The promise of another Epic La Nina season and a chance to catch up with family and friends made booking a ticket back home to NW Washington State and easy one. La Nina has not been very present during the last few weeks with record low snow packs across the Western North America. Lucking the last week of 2011 La Nina decided to show up in force and dropped a meter of snow in a matter of 2 days then cleared up and allowed us to get up high in the Mountains. The weather has since warmed up again and brought rain to the mountains but got a promising forecast for my last week in the grand mountains of the North Cascades. After this I go back to a whirlwind mountain guide life with a week of guiding skiing and ice climbing in Alagna “freeriders paradise” Italy, then Ice Guiding the big frozen water ice climbs of west coast Norway, before returning “Home” to the Lofoten Islands for a full season of ski mountaineering and alpine climbing. Stay tuned!
