Northern Norway has passed the very darkest days of the year, when dawn meets dusk in just a tiny period of natural twilight each day, and head laps or other artificial lighting are required equipment for any outdoor activity extending to much more than a quick cross country lap. Now, the light is slowly returning north of the Arctic Circle, but Norrøna Ambassadors Niko and Vegard, with friends, have already defied both sparse snow conditions and the sun’s absence.
“December in northern Norway was dark, windy and dry. Aka good times. Most of the snow that did fall was blown off the mountains immediately, but some of it accumulated in the couloirs of Tamokdalen. So naturally we skied those. With a tiny window of light around noon, we timed (with an almost 100% success rate) our ascent so that we could take advantage of that light on the descent:
No Caravelles were harmed in the making of this film.”
