The sun is shining, the grass is green, and the swimming temperatures have passed freezing level. Summer is definitely here, and there could hardly be a better time to go skiing and snowboarding!
The legendary Stryn Summer Ski Resort just opened the 2012 season last weekend, in perfect conditions and with around 6 meters of snow! The weather could not have been better in the southern part of norway last week, with blue skies and high temperatures, as the first real sign of summer this year. Norwegians rushed to the the closest beach, their house by the sea or to get their boat on the water. Some of us, however, waxed the skis and headed in the oposite direction. TO THE MOUNTAINS!

There is something magical about spring skiing. Not the same magic as in a powder day, a perfectly shaped park or untouched groomed piste. Nor the same magic as in endless, crisp cross country tracks and a world completely dressend in white. There is another kind of magic at work when the valley’s are green, the fjords and lakes are turquoise, while the mountains are still white up high. The magic of two seasons at once. Two different worlds working together maybe?
Some would say that they are done with everything that has to do with winter at this point, while others would argue that there is no better time of the year, and that Spring is when you can get the very best from both worlds. Skiing and snowboarding in shorts, having a swim and laying in the grass afterwards, enjoying soft and stable snow, and trusting safe, settled snow in steep terrain.
