Recyclable plastic bottles deposited in Norway this Easter becomes fleece jackets from Norrona.
- For Norrøna, a new fleece jacket is good, but a ten-year old fleece jacket is even better. A quality product that resists wear and tear through many years of use is all in all better for the environment. If a fleece jacket additionally is solely made of recycled bottles, we believe its worth going the extra mile to make it happen, says CEO and owner of Norrona Jorgen Jorgensen.
Norrona has over time evaluated the use of fleece material made solely out of recycled bottles, but we have not succeeded in developing a 100% recycled fleece product with the right properties in regards to quality and comfort. Recycled fleece garments have only had a small proportion of recycled plastic bottles. Until now. Industry innovation leader Polartec has developed new performance fabrics with Unifi‘s Repreve 100 yarn, made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, performing equal to 100% virgin fiber. Deposit campaign this Easter
All plastic bottles deposited to Norsk Resirk this Easter will either become new bottles or by-products such as fleece garments. Just after Easter, approximately 700 000 Norwegian recyclable plastic bottles will start their journey to become Norrona fleece jackets.
- All deposited cans and bottles are recycled to become something new and useful. We´re happy that Norrona see recycled bottles as a valuable commodity, and now wish to use them in their manufacturing of clothing, says director of communications in Norsk Resirk Randi Haavik Varberg.
The project is a collaboration between Tomra, Norrona and the operator of the Norwegian deposit system for recyclable cans and plastic bottles, Norsk Resirk, together with Unifi and Polartec.
Norrøna fleece jacket made from recycled plastic bottles will be in stores next summer.
