Narvik patriot and mountainbike enthusiast, Sture Pettersen, reports that the snow has finally melted in the highland around the Swedish/Norwegian border, and takes us on one of their favorite trips along the old railway material road, “Rallarvegen”.
Rallarvegen, or “The Navvies Road” was established for the construction of the railway from the mines in Swedish Kiruna to the port of Narvik more than one hundred years ago, for equipment, material and personnel during the building. Today it’s the perfect bike trip with lots of “free” down hill vertical by using the train to get up, if you don’t feel like turning around at the fjord and pedal back up, like Sture and his friend Pål-Eirik Pedersen did after some hotdogs and a quick rest.
